Luigi Piovano and Antonio Pappano first met almost twenty years ago in Cortona, at the Tuscan Sun Festival, where they played the Brahms Trio op. 8 with Dmitri Sitkovetsky. When in 2005 Pappano was made Musical Director of the Santa Cecilia Orchestra in Rome – of which Piovano was (and is) the Principal Cello – the two met and began to play in duo together regularly, giving two or three concerts each season: in Rome for the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, in Florence for the Amici della Musica, in Milan for the Serate Musicali, in Bologna for Musica Insieme, in Perugia for the Amici della Musica, at the Ravello Festival, at the Bozar in Brussells, as well as in Brescia, Como, Pisa, Ravenna, L’Aquila, Mestre…
In September 2020 the duo’s first CD was released by Arcana, featuring the two Brahms cello Sonatas and Giuseppe Martucci’s Two Romances op. 72.
